You don’t have to be mean to be cool.

I’m sure you’ve all seen the movies where the most popular girls in school are also, coincidentally, always the meanest. It’s almost as though the media wants to attribute being popular to being mean, maybe because its more exciting when an ice queen rules the school rather than your typical nice girl, who knows. However, it’s instilling this idea, this mentality, that in order to be well-known, a person must show at least some degree of coldness.

Always be kinder than you feel.

Life is for living, not just existing.

Sometimes I don’t feel like I’m living my life, just surviving it and I feel like I’m wasting my youth away. 5/7 days in my week are me just focusing on school and trying to finish all of my homework and study for my tests. Oh, but it doesn’t end there because nearly half of my weekend is taken up by school as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love learning and the reading about new things but there are days when I want to sit outside and relax in the sun and not think about things like grades and school anymore.

Don’t let people walk all over you.

I’ve always had this problem with being a pushover and letting people walk all over me. Like someone could ask me to do their homework for a week and I would probably do it just because I didn’t want to upset them. Honestly, I just can’t bring myself to say no to someone and even if I did say no to someone, I would immediately feel guilty and change my reply to yes within the next minute. It’s probably because I don’t like it when I’m not liked by someone; it just seriously annoys me so much whenever I find out that someone dislikes me and I don’t even know why. Which is totally irrational because not everyone in the world is going to like me and I know that but I still maintain this kind of mindset.

Forget what you feel and remember what you deserve.

I feel like we, as humans, are often hung over on things that happened in the past. We focus way, way too much on something that we are unable to change, but we try anyway. I for one am guilty of this on more than one occasion. I just keep on worrying and overthinking about things that are completely out of my control.

Don’t stop feeling.

There are times when you are hurt so badly that the pain encompasses you and you can’t think about anything other than it. It overcomes you and it becomes you. And so you try to numb it and distract yourself from whatever is hurting. People have all kinds of different methods of coping with the misery. Maybe its drugs, or alcohol. Partying or throwing yourself into school or work. Replacing the boy that made your heart break with different ones.

Something inside is hurting you – that’s why you need cigarettes or whiskey, or music turned so loud you can’t think.

“Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.”

tumblr_ndf4je1fNm1qaksmjo1_400[1]I once knew this girl who was so painstakingly kind that I almost couldn’t believe she was real. She was nice to every single person she met, even if they weren’t very fond of her, she was nice to them anyway. It was safe to say that nearly everybody loved her, everybody wanted to be her. I found myself aspiring to be like her. Which wasn’t much of a surprise because she was perfect. It was actually scary how someone could maintain such a well balanced life: stellar grades, amazing social life, and pretty, inside and out.

Don’t rain on my parade!

More often than not, you find people disliking you because you are more successful or happier than they are. Maybe because they seek the things that you have in your life and, in turn, they develop a bitter perspective towards you. You don’t really take notice of the fact that they just want to “rain on your parade” and dampen your high spirits. I mean, somehow, most tend to think that by making someone else feel bad about their life, they will magically feel better about their own life. In the end, they just want to pull you down to their level to make their life seem not as bad.

“Isn’t it kind of silly to think that tearing someone else down builds you up?”
Sean Covey

Just simple things, not diamond rings.

Sometimes, happiness may seem difficult to achieve. You might think that you need that nice new car or that gorgeous little black dress that you saw while on an impromptu shopping spree and didn’t have enough money to get. Maybe its that cute boy that sits behind you in class or even that dog you saw at the pet store. Although these things may bring some happiness, it is most often temporary and will soon fade. You will get bored of these materialistic things and seek for something much more fulfilling.
